WanderLuxxe at Martha's Vineyard
This week WanderLuxxe founders headed to Martha's Vineyard for some much needed relaxation. Every year they look forward to spending time with family and friends on the island. Marti and Lola share some of their favorite things to do on the island:
The line might be long, but you can certainly get in and out of Mocha Motts for a cup of coffee if you are feeling like you need some caffeine. We sometimes find ourselves there in the first few days of vacation before we have unwound and let ourselves get into the rhythm of vacation:
Martha's Vineyard is known for its laid back vibe. And that is reflected in some of our favorite restaurants. For breakfast there is an ongoing debate over who serves the best breakfast: Linda Jean’s or Biscuits. Neither will disappoint. We suggest both. When else do you have time to sit down for a full breakfast if not on vacation?
We couldn't visit the island without heading to Nancy's. True to the laid back style, we love to wait in line with a lunch tray for a traditional lobster roll or fried clams. We eat at picnic style benches on the water, prime for people watching. A trip to Nancy’s isn’t complete without a Dirty Banana from Donovan’s, the little daiquiri shack run by Donavan himself.
Another favorite is Giordano's where we love to pop in while walking up Circuit Avenue for a slice of pizza.
Also on Circuit Avenue is a popular favorite, Murdick's Fudge and multiple ice cream places.
For some finer dining we would suggest Sweet Life. Sitting under the lights on the outdoor patio never gets old.
A favorite - Backdoor Donuts. Exactly what the name suggests, its seems like the whole town of Oak Bluffs is waiting at the back door as the donuts are baked for the bakery for the following day. The line wraps around itself with people willing to wait for fresh, hot donuts.
When we are feeling adventurous, we take the long, windy road to Menemsha for lobster by the water. This is something we recommend all visitors of the island experience at least once
Things to do:
Beach, beach, beach. What's better than a day at the beach? One of the best summer pasttimes is going to the beach and island life is not different. There is a popular bridge that kids and adults alike love to jump off of a wooden bridge into the ocean.
Fireworks come once a year on the island in August and Vineyarders stake out their space to see them every year. This year they are scheduled for August 16.
Grand Illumination Night celebrates 150 years on August 14. What a great night for the whole family!
The Flying Horses Carousel - the oldest operating platform carousel in America, is, if nothing else, a historic site. Ask any long time visitors of the island and they certainly have stories of reaching for the rings!
After 20 years of vacationing on the island, we vowed to experience more than our town. Check back for what we find across the island.
